In traditional sports, leagues count everything. For example, they keep track of nearly every player action in baseball. E-sports isn’t that different, and a new competition platform wants to make that process a whole lot easier.
Battlefy is a platform that can help you manage competitive-gaming tournaments and leagues. It works with thousands of games, but the company has spent the last few months working directly with Riot Games to make sure it’ll perform well with the multiplayer arena battler League of Legends. This includes setting up complex tournaments as well as keeping track of important information. That can take up a lot of time, and Battlefy wants to eliminate that, which may make it an indispensable tool for the huge number of e-sports gamers.
Gamers can use Battlefy to quickly create a League of Legends tournament. The client can handle every aspect of the process, including setting a time, a livestreaming channel, and more. It then spits out a code that the tournament manager can share with the other players. That code matches players up in the right game automatically within the League of Legends client.
Battlefy doesn’t just help with the setup process. The client completely bypasses any manual reporting of who won. It will automatically advance the right team to the next round of the tournament while also automatically tracking postgame stats and scoring.
This should cut down on the administrative duties for the tournament manager, and it should get rid of players having to send in screenshots to prove they won.
“Riot Games’ transparency, responsiveness, and commitment to improving the community and player experience align with Battlefy’s own values and make collaborating with Riot a pleasure,” Battlefy chief executive Jason Xu said in a statement provided to GamesBeat. “We look forward to bringing more powerful and exciting features to tournament organizers and participants.”
Battlefy is not generating revenue at this point. The company raised $1.3 million earlier this year, and it put that money toward developing its platform. It plans to eventually start generating money by offering premium products, but that is part of its future roadmap.
In addition to Battlefy, companies like eSportsdesk, BinaryBeast, and Multiplay offer similar tools.
