Mobile gaming sometimes has a reputation of being too casual, but one of the most hardcore classics in recent history is now coming to iOS.

We’re talking about the original BioShock, the atmospheric first-person shooter that originally won the love of fans and critics back in 2007. The Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC classic is now getting a mobile makeover.

“BioShock delivers a true triple-A first-person shooter game experience on the iOS platform by sending players on an underwater adventure to explore the submerged art deco city of Rapture, fighting deranged survivors of a failed objectivist utopia, and genetically modifying their own DNA to gain superhuman powers,” publisher 2K stated in a press release sent to GamesBeat,

We don’t have a specific release date, although 2K has said in the press release that the port is coming this summer. You’ll need a newer iOS device to play it, specifically an iPad Air, iPad 4, iPad Mini 2, iPhone 5S, iPhone 5C, or iPhone 5. BioShock will be a premium priced game, so publisher 2K Games isn’t releasing a free-to-play title. 2K used a similar model for the turn-based strategy game Xcom: Enemy Unkown, another console game that the publisher gave a mobile release.

We don’t entirely know how touchscreen controls will work with the port (although the screenshot above gives us some clues), but we do know that BioShock on iOS will offer controller support.
