The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim took home the award for game of the year today from the prestigious Academy of Interactive Sciences. The Interactive Awards took place at the DICE Summit in Las Vegas, where 700 game developers and industry professionals are gathered. The awards are like the Oscars of the game industry.
The Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences is an elite professional game group that puts on the annual Dice Summit gaming event in Las Vegas and selects the winners for the equivalent of the game industry’s Oscars. So it’s interesting that the academy is adding two new board members from Nexon and Zynga.
For a while, the makers of hardcore games belittled social game developers. While the hardcore game designers commanded budgets of $30 million, the social game folks — and their mobile game brethren — were viewed as second-class citizens working with shoestring budgets.
