DOE and X Prize pledge $150M in new clean technology grants
The U.S. DOE will invest up to $50 million in nine electric grid efficiency demonstration projects over the next 5 years, an an effort to reduce peak load demand in ways that could prevent the need for more power plants.

EMeter takes $12.5M for utility-scale energy management
Energy and resource tracking company eMeter has raised $12.5 million in its fifth round of venture funding, almost mirroring a funding for $500,000 less completed this time last year.
The company makes software that tracks the meters of millions of customers, whether they’re using electricity, gas, or water. The information is reported back to utilities, who can use it toward their smart grid initiatives.
