Redwood Systems gets $4M for commercial building LEDs
Redwood Systems, a Danville, Calif.-based firm that wants to help businesses conserve energy by converting to LED lighting, has raised $4 million in first round funding, according to PEHub.
While compact fluorescent lightbulbs (or CFLs, as they’re more commonly known) are a major improvement over incandescents, most analysts and building experts believe LEDs are the future of energy-efficient lighting. And if VC investments are any indication, then it looks as though that transition could be coming… Continue Reading
As LEDs become hot, Intematix takes an investment, expands objectives
While most agree that LEDs will someday replace compact fluorescents as the energy-efficient lights of choice for homes and businesses, that day often seems far off. LEDs, which emit light from a semiconductor chip instead of interaction with a gas, have always been bulky and expensive, and the illumination they give off isn’t exactly mood lighting. But recently, it has begun to look like lighting companies may overcome those problems more quickly than anticipated.

Intematix raises $16.5M for solid-state lighting and other material discovery
Intematix, a material discovery company based in Fremont which specializes in supplying phosphors used for solid-state lighting and displays, said it has raised $16.5 million in a third round of venture capital.
Solid-state lighting, in which light is emitted from solid objects (light-emitting diodes, or LEDs), and not from a gas, does not waste as much energy as traditional sources of light. It has been termed a technology of the future.
The financing was led by Crosslink… Continue Reading
