Semantinet, a company that hopes to give users more information about topics on web pages without them having to perform a search or leave the site they’re on, is launching a product called Headup into private beta this morning at the Web 3.0 conference in Santa Clara, Calif.

Semantinet raises $3.4M for web information discovery
Semantinet, an Israeli company working on a browsing product incorporating semantic technology, has taken a first round of funding totaling $3.4 million.
There aren’t many details yet on what Semantinet’s product will look like. The company has only said that it is working on “software enabling the discovery of new information as part of the natural browsing experience.”

Franz, seeking funding, wants to become the foundation for a “semantic web”
Talk of the “semantic web” was deafening late last year, with startups from search engine Hakia to travel organizer TripIt touting specific uses of semantic technology. That trend has continued into this year with fundings.
