Zipidee buys rare video site TotalVid.com

Zipidee, an online marketplace for specialty videos and other content, has purchased competing rare video company TotalVid.com from Landmark Communications for an undisclosed amount.

Video is hot these days, with lots of noise. This move continues Zipidee’s strategy of carving out a niche for itself: as a marketplace for rare content (our coverage).

Online digital marketplace Zipidee launches public beta, raises funding

Zipidee, a company that lets you sell digital information through an online marketplace, is launching its public beta service tomorrow.

The service is targeting musicians, videographers, researchers or anyone else with digital information — that people are willing to pay for. Sellers create accounts with Zipidee, upload and display their digital goods on the Zipidee home site, or in a Zipidee widget on their own site. PlugandPlay winners: BlueGem, Gigya, Twiki and Zipidee

Four companies took top prize at today’s start-up competition in Silicon Valley’s Plug and Play incubator.

They included Gigya and BlueGem Security, which we featured yesterday.

The other two are Zipidee, an online marketplace with an optional DRM wrapper, and Twiki, a surprisingly old but hardy wiki project. All four companies are based at Plug and Play’s incubator offices in Sunnyvale.
