It’s only been a few weeks since YouSendIt CEO Brad Garlinghouse promised to do “more than just send.”

YouSendIt is best known for its software to help users send and receive large files via a desktop PC. But today, it’s launching a suite of mobile apps for iPhone, Windows 8, and Windows Phone 8, so you’ll be able to access documents, videos and presentations on the move.

With the new iPhone app, released today, you can send and sign documents from a smartphone with any changes securely synced. The company promises a faster access and a host of new features — for instance, you can send a document without saving it to the app to conserve memory.

YouSendIt recently launched its revamped Windows 8, Windows Phone 8, and Samsung S-pen apps. Earlier this month, it acquired a venture-backed startup called “Found.” You can use this tech to discover your files, documents, and data across a variety of devices and cloud services.

As it moves into the file-sharing and delivery space, YouSendIt will compete with well-funded startups like Box and Dropbox, which are also fine-turning their strategy for mobile.

It has chosen its positioning wisely in emphasizing that it will keep sensitive data secure.

“Seventy-five percent of businesses allow employees to use their personal mobile devices for work purposes,” said YouSendIt’s product lead Matte Scheinker in a statement. He explained that the mobile apps meet the needs of employees and the “robust security” required by IT.

YouSendIt has raised a total of $49 million in venture funding in the previous seven years. According to Garlinghouse, it is experiencing 50 percent growth year over year and recently exceeded 40 million users. Last year, the company pulled in $57 million in revenue.

YouSendIt, the Campbell, Calif.-based startup that wants to do more than let users send large files, has made its latest strategic acquisition.

The company bought a venture-backed startup called “Found” (the founders are pictured, above) for an undisclosed sum. The technology lets users discover their files, documents, and data across a variety of devices and cloud services.

YouSendIt’s CEO Brad Garlinghouse aims to “go beyond send”, and help users access and manage their data. In an interview, he liberally uses the term “cloud-nogistic” to describe how technology should be able to cater to the full spectrum of providers, whether its Google Drive or Dropbox.

Garlinghouse said the corporate development team was tasked with finding startups to potentially acquire “that were thinking horizontally, not just vertically.” The company bought Found with a combination of cash and stock. They will retain the full team in their San Francisco offices, and will provide resources for the 5-person team to build out the product.

YouSendIt has raised a total of $49 million in venture funding in the previous seven years. According to Garlinghouse, they are experiencing 50 percent growth year over year, and recently exceeded 40 million users. Last year, the company pulled in $57 million in revenue.

I wrote about Memeo‘s GDrive document synchronization tool in June, but the company has also been working more quietly on another product — Memeo Send. Where Memeo Connect and the GDrive are a way for users to store and synchronize their documents among all of their own devices, Memeo Send is an easy way to send electronic files.

The Aliso Viejo, Calif. company is releasing an upgraded version of the product today, version 1.5. The basic tool is the same. Director of Strategy and Business Development Spencer Chen said the big emphasis has been on the simplicity of the experience. You drag-and-drop your files into a box icon, enter the recipients’ email addresses, and off the files go. Then you’re notified when each of their recipients has downloaded the package. Chen said users have compared the experience to UPS or FedEx.

Memeo Send is a desktop application that works on Windows and Mac. recipients can download their files without installing send.

The changes in Memeo Send 1.5 are mostly tweaks aimed at making the experience even easier, such as the ability to add another recipient to a package after it has been sent without any extra charge. The company is also introducing a “freemium” pricing plan, where users can send packages of up to 100 megabytes for free, then for bigger files they have to pay $4.95 per package or $19.95 per month.

I asked whether there’s a big need for a product like this, since email apps like Gmail allow users to send and store larger files. Product Management Director Ray Combs pointed out that email programs still limit the size of individual attachments (in Gmail, for example, the limit is 25 megabytes), while there’s absolutely no limit in Memeo Send. Chen added that email doesn’t have the security and tracking that Memeo offers.

Memeo Send has 50,000 users who have sent more than 500,000 packages, the company says. And it seems like other companies have become more interested in the market too. For example Smith Micro, whose software includes the StuffIt file compressor, recently announced a file delivery app.

Memeo is backed by G-51 Capital and Foundry Group.
