Verizon will begin selling Samsung’s new Galaxy Camera later this week, marking one of the first smart-camera-first devices to debut via a wireless carrier.

The device, which we first heard about back in August, runs Android Jelly Bean and features a 4.8-inch display, 16-megapixel sensor, a 21x optical zoom, and 8GB of on-board memory. If you need more storage, you can also buy additional micro SD cards.

Maybe most importantly, the Galaxy Camera will run on Verizon’s ultra quick 4G wireless network, which will most certainly come in handy if you plan on uploading tons of high-resolution images. You can also choose either a white or black model of the camera.

The Samsung Galaxy Camera will be available Dec. 13 and costs $550 — a bit steep for an web-connected camera (even a good one). However, the wireless carrier is allowing customers to add the device to an existing data plan for just $5 more a month.

Will you be purchasing a Samsung Galaxy Camera?
