That’s faster than “Gangnam Style,” which took 60 days to hit 350 million views. And with 22 million views in just 16 hours, it beat out Justin Bieber for the most YouTube views in a single day. Plus, its ridiculously catchy jingle almost ensures that this new video will continue to be successful.

But this case has one big difference: A lot more people, proportionally, dislike this video.

“Gangnam Style,” which currently has over 1.5 billion views, with 7,391,498 likes and 731,346 dislikes, for an almost 10:1 like to dislike ratio. “Gentleman,” however, which is a video about not being a gentleman, has 791,926 likes and 138,742 downvotes, for a much lower likeability factor: under 6:1.

That’s probably due to the fact that “Gentleman” is — frankly — kind of nasty.

The video is full of gags that PSY pulls on barely dressed beautiful women: pulling out chairs and causing them to fall, unleashing bikini tops, tripping, “stink-palming,” and more. Plus, of course, there’s PSY kicking a soccer ball away from playing kids.

All of which makes the main lyric very, very appropriate: “I’m a mother f***** gentleman.”

I suppose it’s all in good fun, and PSY does get some comeuppance late in the video when a female companion pulls his chair away as well. But something tells me even if this video goes as hugely big as “Gangnam Style,” it won’t ever be as big a cultural phenomenon.

It’s just too nasty.

Google just released its 2012 Zeitgeist, its annual collection of trending search topics across the globe. Topping overall search trends for the year were: Whitney Houston, the pop diva who died earlier this year;  Gangnam Style, the hilarious dance (and YouTube’s most-watched video) by Korean singer Psy; and Hurricane Sandy, which ravaged New York and New Jersey in October.

Google says it powered 1.2 trillion searches across 146 languages during 2012. An Android Google Zeitgeist app is coming later today, while an iOS app is coming soon.

Apple’s iPad 3 topped the consumer technology category, followed by Samsung’s Galaxy S3 and the iPad Mini. Samsung’s Galaxy Note and Google’s Nexus 7 rounded out the top consumer tech — clearly this year we were all hot for tablets.

Topping other categories were the British boy band One Direction, the film version of The Hunger Games, and basketball sensation Jeremy Lin of the Houston Rockets (and earlier, the New York Knicks).

As always, Google’s video wrap-up of the year’s searches is all about bold imagery from throughout the year, especially skydiver Felix Baumgartner’s space jump.

But question and answer site Ask.com‘s year-end review of what was big and popular in 2012 focused, appropriately, on the questions people asked over the past year.

Sure, Gangnam Style is huge … but what the heck is it, actually? And Lance Armstrong has been semi-officially disgraced … but did he actually take performance-enhancing drugs? Mitt Romney said something about 47 percent of us … but what, exactly?

“With nearly half of the queries on Ask.com in the form of a full question, we get a snapshot of not only what captured consumers’ attention, but also what piqued their curiosity,” Valerie Combs, vice president of communications for Ask.com, said in a statement.

The result is a fascinating insight into not just what people are searching for, but why. And what, specifically, they want to know about a person, event, or concept.

Here are Ask’s top news search terms for 2012:

1. 2012 Olympics. How many medals did the US gymnastics team win?
2. Hurricane Sandy. What is the damage from Hurricane Sandy?
3. Black Knight shooting. What happened at the Colorado shooting?
4. Jerry Sandusky. What is Jerry Sandusky’s sentence?
5. iPhone 5. When will the iPhone 5 be released?
6. Facebook IPO. When is the Facebook IPO?
7. Lance Armstrong. Did Lance Armstrong take drugs?
8. Whitney Houston. How did Whitney Houston die?
9. Costa Concordia. How did the Costa Concordia sink?
10. Trayvon Martin. Why was Trayvon Martin Shot?

Political queries were, understandably, dominated by the 2012 U.S. presidential election. However, social issues such as rape and gay marriage entered the list, as did Europe and the Greece-inspired Euro crisis that wasn’t. Oh, and Clint Eastwood talking to a chair apparently confused a LOT of people.

Celeb questions were inevitably popular, including Prince Harry’s didn’t-stay-in-Vegas indiscretions and the globe-shaking controversy over when Snooki’s baby would be born. People wanted to know what size diamond Brangelina gave to itself, and whether, in fact, young Olympic greek-god-even-if-he-is-American Ryan Lochte had a girlfriend.

1. Kristen Stewart. Will Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart get back together?
2. Katie Holmes. Was Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise’s marriage fake?
3. Psy – Gangnam Style. What does Gangnam Style mean?
4. Snooki. When is Snooki’s baby due?
5. Prince Harry. What will happen to Prince Harry because of the nude pictures?
6. Brad Pitt. How big is Angelina’s engagement ring?
7. Carly Rae Jepsen. What is the best Call Me Maybe parody?

The Biebs may want to brush up on his dance moves. In just four months, Korean pop star Psy has outdanced the teen heartthrob to the top of YouTube’s charts.

Psy’s strangely fascinating “Gangnam Style” video has just surpassed Justin Bieber’s “Baby” to become the most watched video in YouTube history, according to video data tracker ChannelMeter and a Saturday morning tweet from the Korean singer.

YouTube made it official with its own blog post, posted later Saturday, proclaiming Psy’s “Gangnam Style” the most viewed video in its history.

“Gangnam Style” has racked up more than 805 million YouTube views since debuting on the site four months ago. Bieber’s nearly two-year-old “Baby,” the previous reigning YouTube champ, sits at close to 804 million views.

“The velocity of popularity for Psy’s outlandish video is unprecedented,” YouTube trends manager Kevin Allocca said. “Each day, ‘Gangnam Style’ is still being watched between 7 and 10 million times.”

ChannelMeter has some more bad news for JB. After analyzing months of viewing trend data, the analytics company is projecting that “Gangnam Style” will leave “Baby” in the dust and become the first video ever to reach 1 billion YouTube views. “Gangnam Style” should surpass the milestone on December 16 by the company’s calculations. Baby’s view count, meanwhile, will stay relatively flat — unless Beliebers rally to support their man.

As if it the Gangnam Style meme hadn’t been played out, parodied, and remixed in different languages enough, someone decided to do a full Klingon version. And they’re actually rapping in Klingon, the fictional Star Trek language spoken by an alien race by the same name. According to the description on the video, Kristen Bobst actually wrote the words in the Klingon language (which every Trekkie wished they could take in high-school instead of French). According to the translation, Bobst got help from a “Klingon linguist” for the lyrics.

In English, they’re mostly racy gibberish, but it appropriately mentions killing Romulans. Here’s a snippet:

How long does it take to become a major Internet sensation? Many say “overnight,” but in the case of Gangnam Style, two months of YouTube hits, parody videos, and fan re-dos made one band and their “horsey-dance” more relevant to pop culture than Call Me Maybe.

Carly Rae Jepsen’s Call me Maybe had the right elements to become an Internet sensation. It was catchy, quirky, celebrity endorsed (watch Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez’s parody video here) and more importantly, people were able to think up memes to make fun of it. According to analytics company Visible Measure, Call Me Maybe reached 350 million views, including parody videos and live performances posted to YouTube, in 112 days.

Gangnam Style reached 350 million views in 60 days.

The video involves South Korean rapper PSY dancing throughout the country singing about, what I assume to be the right kind of woman to date. (Sorry, I only know two words in Korean. 감사합니다!) His dance looks like someone riding a horse without the horse, and reminds many in the U.S. of LMFAO’s comedy-raps.

But what really made this video soar are the fan parody videos. Visible Measure put together the top 10 best parodies, the top three of which already have over 18 million views together. Below are three of our favorites. Check out the rest of the top fan re-makes here.
