Dyyno pledges video sharing at a fraction of YouTube’s costs

While Google grapples with making YouTube profitable, a Silicon Valley start-up called Dyyno says it has a fraction of the video-sharing site’s distribution costs and is focusing on monetization out of the gate.

Dyyno’s technology basically lets users build a channel of whatever they want: live video, recorded video, presentations on their laptops, photo slideshows or game-playing and then stream it live to many concurrent users. The content is also archived for later use.

OpSource scores $10M for on-demand app delivery

OpSource, provider of software-as-a-service and web applications for a variety of functions, just raked in $10 million in fifth-round funding from Nippon Telegraph and Telephone (NTT), Velocity Venture Capital, Key Venture Partners, Crosslink Capital and Artiman Ventures to continue expanding its software portfolio. Digital pathology developer BioImagene brought Siemens Venture Capital into its fold last week, adding an unreleased amount to a recently-closed $26 million fourth-round of financing. That round was led by Burill & Co. and included Ascension Health Ventures, National Healthcare Services, Artiman Ventures and ICCP Ventures.

Virident raises $13.3M for energy-efficient hardware for computers

Virident, the secretive Los Altos, Calif. company building a hardware that makes computers more energy efficient confirmed it has raised $13.3 million in a first round of funding, something we reported in May.

Artiman Ventures raises $185M fund

Artiman Ventures, a Palo Alto, Calif. venture capital firm has finished raising its second venture capital fund, totaling $185 million, according to VentureWire (sub required).

Nearly 20 institutional investors contributed capital, according to the report, including the University of Texas Investment Management Co., funds of funds Northgate Capital and Fairview Capital Partners, and the corporate pension plans of BellSouth, Corning and Boeing.

It wasn’t immediately clear to us, however, whether the firm has scored any hits yet.

Nethra raises $14M for chip for better mobile photos

Nethra Imaging, a Cupertino company that makes chips to better process images on mobile phones, raised a $14.2 million in a third round of funding, according to VentureWire.

The product will be made available as early as next year with two unnamed handset manufacturers carrying high-quality mobile phone cameras with 3 megapixel or greater resolution — and is designed to make the photos print-quality. (More details on the technology here).

Opsource, enterprise infrastructure Co., raises $20M in VC/debt

OpSource Inc., a Santa Clara, Calif.-based developer of enterprise infrastructure operations platforms, has raised $20 million in private equity, venture leasing and credit lines, according to PE Week Wire.

Intel Capital led the Series C equity tranche, and was joined by return backers ComVentures, Artiman Ventures, and Key Venture Partners. Western Technology Investment provided the venture leasing, while Silicon Valley Bank extended an additional line of credit.
