Tela closes $5.5M to scale semiconductor manufacturing
Tela Innovations, a Campbell, Calif. firm working to streamline semiconductor designs and manufacturing, has added three investors to close a $5.5 million third round of funding, reports VentureWire. The new backers, Cadence Design Systems, KT Venture Group and Qualcomm, join past contributors Intel Capital, AsiaTech Management, Sand Hill Finance, Teton Capital Group and Western Technology Investment.
The company plans to use the money to commercialize its semiconductor designs, aimed at efficiently scaling their processes.
Tela Innovations funded for 45 nanometer chipmaking
Tela Innovations is a Campbell, Calif. company with a technology for manufacturing 45 nanometer chips, which have just coming to the consumer market starting with Intel’s Penryn processor.
The company uses computational lithography techniques to address a special problem encountered in the manufacture of extremely advanced chips, when the wavelength of light used in manufacturing begins to become larger than the chips themselves.

VisualOn raises $2.1M for mobile multimedia
VisualOn, a company based in Campbell, Calif. with separate offices in Shanghai, offers audio and video software for mobile phones.
The company uses the H.264 video codec for its offerings, which include a viewer, recorder and mobile TV. It also offers all of the standard codecs. VisualOn claims its advantages are in low processor requirements and speedy dowloading.
AsiaTech Management and EXA Ventures led the $2.1 million second round for the company, according to VentureWire (subscription required).
Cadence Design Systems buys chip design co., Clear Shape
Cadence Design Systems, a chip design company, has purchased Clear Shape Technologies, another chip design company.

Clear Shape, founded in 2003, had raised more than $10 million from investors including AsiaTech Management, Intel Capital, KT Venture Group, Telos Ventures and U.S. Venture Partners.
Chip design co., Ciranova, raises $4M
Ciranova, a Santa Clara electronic design automation (EDA) start-up, has raised $4 million in a third round of financing.
Its technology uses open standards and focuses on analog and custom integrated circuit design.
Leading the round AsiaTech Management and that firm’s founder, Katherine Jen, will join Ciranova’s board of directors, the company said.
