Ultracell raises $3.8M for portable fuel cells
UltraCell, provider of fuel cells for mobile applications, has brought in $3.8 million in capital, according to VentureWire. BASF Venture Capital, OnPoint Technologies, Espirito Santo Ventures and Miami Valley Venture Fund led the round. Based in Livermore, Calif. the company has raised $30 million in venture backing to date.

Luca shovels in $76M for coal-to-gas technology
Coal is no longer the dirty word it once was. NanoMas Technologies raises $3.2M for nanoparticle inks, printed electronics
NanoMas Technologies makes nanoparticle inks that are used in a variety printed electronic applications, including displays, solar cells and mirrors, and RFID devices. It also produces nanotubes useful in medical devices, drug delivery and other composite materials.
The Vestal, N.Y.-based company was founded in 2006, but this investment was its first full venture funding. BASF Venture Capital led the $3.2 million round, and was joined by Earthrise Capital Partners and NanoMaterials Investors.

Advanced BioNutrition snaps up $7.8M for seafood nutrition
Columbia, Md.’s Advanced BioNutrition, a developer of aquaculture products, raised $7.75 million in a third funding round. The company makes microbe-produced versions of fatty acids and amino acids found in fish oil and fish meal, which can then be used as “organic” ingredients in feed for farmed fish, shrimp and other seafood creatures.
The Sea Change Investment Fund led the round, joined by Sherbrooke Capital, Emerald Technology Ventures, BASF Venture Capital and Arancia Industrial SA.
