Open-source software maker Open-Xchange closes $9 million round

Open-Xchange, builder of open-source collaboration and email software platforms, raked in $9 million in second-round funding from eCapital Entrepreneurial Partners, BayBG, and BayTech Venture Capital — all three based in Germany.

The Tarrytown, N.Y. company provides software for document, calendar and address-book sharing that can be used on mobile phones. It previously brought in $8.8 million in a first round of funding from Business Angels and BayTech.

ChipVision Design, for low-power electronic design automation, gets $4.5M

ChipVision Design Systems, a startup based in Oldenburg, Germany and San Jose, Calif., makes software that helps semiconductor designers create lower-powered chips for the consumer and communications applications.

The company was founded in 2002 based on research done at the University of Oldenburg, and simultaneously established its San Jose office to enter the American market.
