Semiconductor maker Alereon buys Stonestreet wireless assets
Fabless semiconductor company Alereon announced today that it purchased intellectual property and requisite engineering teams from software firm Stonestreet One. The sum Alereon paid hasn’t been disclosed. The acquisition will diversify Alereon’s portfolio to include more software offerings in addition to chips.
The Austin, Tex.-based company specializes in ultra wideband (UWB) coverage, a technology that competes with Bluetooth to provide wireless connections between computers and mobile devices.

Airwalk latest company to pitch femtocell technology

Airwalk Communications is part of a wave of companies developing “femtocell” technology, which lets your cell phone run on your home WiFi networks (update: the company only works on CDMA networks, not WiFi), and allows you to route calls over your land-line too. The Richardson, Texas company has just finished raising $25 million in a second round of financing.

NextHop, provider of WiFi networks for large companies, raises $4M more
NextHop Technologies., a Mountain View, Calif. provider of WiFi and other network software for large companies, said it has raised $4 million in a fourth round of financing.
Investors included New Enterprise Associates, Duchossois Technology Partners, Labrador Ventures, and Parker Price Venture Capital. The company’s total funding is $45.8 million.

Intellon raises $18M from Samsung, Intel & others for broadband via electrical outlets
Intellon Corporation, of Ocala, Florida, which makes chips to enable broadband access via electrical outlets has raised $18 million in financing from Samsung Ventures and a long list of existing investors: BCE Capital, Comcast Interactive Capital, Duchossois Technology Partners, EnerTech Capital, Fidelity Ventures, Goldman, Sachs & Co and Intel Capital.
NextHop raises $4.8M more for network software
NextHop Technologies, a Mountain View network software company, has raised $4.8 million in a third round of funding.
The funding came from previous investors New Enterprise Associates, Duchossois Technology Partners, Labrador Ventures, and Parker Price Venture Capital, the company said, raising its total funding so far to $41.8 million.
