SynapSense gets $7M to make data centers more energy efficient

SynapSense, a Folsom, Calif. company that uses wireless sensors to track thermal, pressure and humidity conditions in corporate data centers, has tacked $7 million onto its second round of financing.

Its customers include the New York Stock Exchange and Verizon, among others.

Vaperma scoops up $5.5 for ethanol-filtration

Vaperma, maker of the Siftek membrane system used to drain water from ethanol, brought in a $5.5 million tranche of a $17.2 million second round of funding. The money will go toward the Quebec City company’s first shipments of filters and additional product research, reports VentureWire.

Xunlight raises another $11M for thin-film solar modules

Xunlight is on a roll: Only a few weeks after disclosing that it had raised $4.97 million from Ohio’s Third Frontier Projects, the Toledo-based developer of flexible, low cost thin-film silicon modules has secured another $11 million in third round funding from a group of institutional investors, led by Rabo Ventures. Vaperma, for removing water from ethanol, raises CDN $21.5M

Vaperma is a Quebec City, Canada based company that makes dewatering systems for ethanol producers.

Water is a by-product of ethanol production, and must be removed before the product is finished. Vaperma’s specialized membranes can selectively drain the water away, a method the company says is cheaper than distillation columns or chemical dryers.

Advanced BioNutrition snaps up $7.8M for seafood nutrition

Columbia, Md.’s Advanced BioNutrition, a developer of aquaculture products, raised $7.75 million in a third funding round. The company makes microbe-produced versions of fatty acids and amino acids found in fish oil and fish meal, which can then be used as “organic” ingredients in feed for farmed fish, shrimp and other seafood creatures.

The Sea Change Investment Fund led the round, joined by Sherbrooke Capital, Emerald Technology Ventures, BASF Venture Capital and Arancia Industrial SA.
