Greenhouse Capital goes back to the well for first fund

Instead of launching a second fund, Greenhouse Capital Partners has decided to reopen its $12 million first fund to raise even more, reports VentureWire. Based in Sausalito, Calif., the firm typically backs seed-stage cleantech startups. It had hoped to raise $100 million when it set out last year, but had its dreams dashed when the downturn set in.

Renewable Fuel Products takes $145K to turn veggie oil into fuel

Renewable Fuel Products, a San Francisco-based company that’s testing oils from various vegetables to determine how well they can be converted into vehicle fuel, has raised $145,000 to continue its research. It’s also working on several products examining the energy potential of algae.

While investors in the recent round haven’t been disclosed, Big Sky Partners and Greenhouse Capital Partners provided seed funding in the past. The company divulged this information under new federal Form D regulations.

Lifefactory gets seeded for green baby products

Lifefactory, the Sausalito, Calif.-based company that makes green consumer products for infants — primarily, environmentally-safe baby bottles for now — says it raised $750,000 in seed funds from Greenhouse Capital Partners. Before now, the company, formerly known as Babylife, depended on contributions from family and friends.

Lifefactory sells its product through about 500 retail stores and online vendors in the U.S., Canada and Europe — including Nordstrom, Gap and Amazon.

LinkageBio connects $2M for organ transplant typing

San Francisco biotech firm Linkage Biosciences announced that it raised $2 million in first-round funding to commercialize its first product, a system for organ transplant typing. The company developed it with $1 million in seed funding raised in October 2007 but has yet to set a launch date.

InsideView, a San Bruno, Calif. company that offers online sales intelligence software, said it has raised $7.4 million in a first round of funding.

Emergence Capital Partners led the round, and existing (seed-round) investors Greenhouse Capital Partners and Rembrandt Venture Partners participated.

Solaicx, a solar cell maker, raises $27.1M more

Solar cell maker Solaicx, of Santa Clara, has raised $27.1 million more in a third round of funding to help it it expand production, saying its cells are more efficient.

The venture capital arm of D.E. Shaw & Co. led the round, which also included Mitsui Ventures and existing backers Applied Ventures, the venture arm of Applied Materials Inc., Big Sky Ventures, Firsthand Capital Management, and Greenhouse Capital Partners.
