Sylantro and BroadSoft merge to form VoIP powerhouse
The voice-over-internet-protocol space just got less crowded. Big name BroadSoft has just acquired long-time competitor Sylantro Systems for an undisclosed sum. The merger may portend many to come for VoIP companies in 2009 as the recession encourages further consolidation, industry insiders predict.

CardioKinetix raises $14.5M for catheter-based heart treatment
CardioKinetix, a Redwood City, Calif. life sciences startup working on a heart-failure treatment that could potentially help over a million patients, has raised a third round of funding, according to VentureWire.
The company’s procedure uses a catheter to strengthen parts of the heart, and protect areas damaged following heart attacks. The device is designed to be an alternative to a risky surgery typically only used in high-risk patients.

Neoconix, maker of circuit board interconnects, raises $16M
Neoconix, a provider of electrical interconnects for circuit boards that allows circuit boards to become smaller, has raised $16 million in a third round of financing.
The round was led by VentureTech Alliance, and included existing backers J.P. Morgan Partners, Venrock Associates, U.S. Venture Partners and Walden International.
The company has raised $39 million in venture backing since 2003. VentureWire (subscription required) first reported the news this morning.
Vyatta, the open-source networking co., raises $11M more
Vyatta, a San Mateo, Ca. company that sells open-source networking products including routers, firewalls and virtual private networks, has raised $11 million more in a second round of financing.
The round was led by Comcast Interactive Capital, the company said in a statement.
Also participating in the round are existing investors JPMorgan Partners (Panorama), ComVentures, and ArrowPath Venture Partners. The company’s total funding is now $18.5 million.
Vyatta, open-source networking Co., raises $7.5M
Vyatta, a San Mateo start-up that sells an open-source router, said it has raised $7.5 million in a first round of financing.
The funding comes from JPMorgan Partners, ComVentures and ArrowPath Venture Partners.
Vyatta says its Open Flexible Router (OFR) is a more flexible and affordable alternative to the incumbent, “closed-source” products that dominate the market today. Vyatta’s stated goal is to bring “commercial-quality open-source networking products to market.”
