Trapeze Networks, a Pleasanton, Calif.-based provider of wireless network equipment and management systems, announced that it has bought Newbury Networks, a firm that specializes in wireless asset tracking. Trapeze hopes the acquisition will help it expand its product portfolio.

Packet Design takes $12M, likely the final round
Network routing and traffic analysis equipment maker Packet Design has raised a fourth round of funding, according to VentureWire.
This round, which Packet Design expects to be its last, will be used expand internationally.
This $12 million round following a $7.5 million third round secured in late 2006. An acquisition is the likely end game given the poor state of the IPO market, Packet Design board member Wes Raffel told VentureWire.

FireEye raises $14.5M for botnet protection
FireEye has raised $14.5 million in a third round of funding to continue its efforts to protect consumers and businesses from “botnets”, which are networks of infected and remotely controlled computers.
Ashar Aziz, the company’s founder and chief executive, says FireEye complements traditional antivirus and security programs. Sonoa Systems, a Santa Clara service-oriented architecture (SOA) start-up, has raised up to $16 million in a second round of funding, according to LightReading.
Juniper Networks, SAP Ventures and Japanese integrator Net One Systems joined the round, which was led by existing investors Bay Partners and Norwest Venture Partners, according to the report.
