Link_A_Media Devices, maker of technology used to recover and transmit data on storage devices, has brought in $18 million in a first round of funding. The Santa Clara, Calif. company is backed by Lightspeed Venture Partners, Keynote Ventures, SunAmerica Ventures, and Itochu Technology Ventures.
Center’d marries local search to event listings and planning
Launching this evening is a new company that thinks it can be all things to all local searchers: Listings like Yelp, events like Going, and planning like Evite, all layered atop a rich, yet feathery-light social network.

Link_A_Media Devices, a data recovery firm, gets $22M
A group of strategic investors and two venture firms has provided a $22 million second round of funding to Link_A_Media Devices, which develops data recovery techniques for use with both hard-disk drives and solid-state drives.
Link_A_Media, based in Santa Clara, Calif., can raise storage density and raise drive yields during the manufacturing process, according to its release. Its first product is for the mobile peripheral storage market.

Fatdoor, online social network for neighborhoods, snags fat stack of cash
Fatdoor, a social networking site for suburban neighborhoods and small communities, has raised $5.5 million from Norwest Venture Partners and KeyNote Ventures.
Networking and community sites focused on local markets have not yet produced a major success, (and there have been a few failures) but investors continue to pour money in.

F-Origin, an eight-year-old company in Morrisville, N.C. developing touch-screen technology for mobile devices, has raised between $4 million and $5 million in a first round of capital from Keynote Ventures.
The funding was covered by VentureWire today (sub required).
