Cell Biosciences to launch new tech with $10M

Cell Biosciences announced that it’s just brought in $10 million in a third round of funding to launch its new protein analysis technology used to track cellular pathways. It plans to sell its products to labs and research institutions that are developing medications and chemical diagnostics for cancer, diabetes and other diseases.

Solaicx, a solar cell maker, raises $27.1M more

Solar cell maker Solaicx, of Santa Clara, has raised $27.1 million more in a third round of funding to help it it expand production, saying its cells are more efficient.

The venture capital arm of D.E. Shaw & Co. led the round, which also included Mitsui Ventures and existing backers Applied Ventures, the venture arm of Applied Materials Inc., Big Sky Ventures, Firsthand Capital Management, and Greenhouse Capital Partners.

DiObex, a metabolic disease treatment co., raises $24M

DiObex, a San Francisco biopharmaceutical company focused on treatments of metabolic diseases, said it has raised $24 million in a second round of financing.

The round was led by Inventages Venture Capital (Switzerland). Also joining the round are new investors Mitsui Ventures (Japan) and Pac-Link BioVentures (Taiwan), together with Series A investors Domain Associates, Pequot Ventures and Sofinnova Ventures, the company said.
