In its seventh year, Sittercity, the web site that connects clients with available caregivers, has raised a $7.5 million first round of funding to build brand recognition. Before now, the Chicago-based company has relied on seed money and revenue to grow.

Fidelis Security Systems gets $22M for network security

Fidelis Security Systems is a network security firm with a focus on extrusion prevention — in essence, stopping leads of data like credit card information, which have plagued large companies of late.

Based in Bethesda, Maryland, Fidelis was founded in 2002. However, this funding is only the second full venture round that the company has taken.

Music Nation raises $5.5M for latest music video site

Music Nation is the latest Web site focused on independent music videos. The New York company, launched in April, has just raised $5.5 million in a first round of venture capital from venture capital firm Greylock Partners and Point Judith Capital.

To generate publicity, it is launching a music video competition Jan. 29 that will give three winners — in the rock, pop and urban categories — recording contracts with Epic Records.

Novare raises $16 million for less invasive surgery instruments

Novare Surgery has raised $16 million in a fourth round of funding to bring its RealHand instruments for “minimally invasive surgery” to market.

The Cupertino start-up said Point Judith Capital and Tudor Investment Corp. led the round of financing and were joined by existing investors Thomas J. Fogarty, Channel Medical Partners, Canaan Partners, Asset Management and new investor Deerfield Partners.
