Midomi lets you identify and search for music, hits No. 1 iPhone paid music app

Midomi, a mobile application that lets you identify songs by singing into the phone, today became the No. 1 paid music application on the iPhone.

Tomorrow, the company will also announce it has raised $4 million in fresh venture capital funding, led by Walden Venture Capital’s Larry Marcus.

The application boasts several million downloads (the company isn’t specifying exactly how many). It launched the $4.99 application three months ago, and the company became profitable earlier this year.

Comedy.com launches with first funding round

No odd spellings or lengthy domain names for this one: Comedy.com is yet another new portal for amusing content, launched yesterday by the former chief executive of the defunct UPN television network.

The competition in this space is becoming fierce, with 60Frames, FunnyorDie, ICN (coverage here), MyDamnChannel and a number of other startups all trying to popularize professionally-produced comedic content.

Meevee, for online video search and sharing, raises $3.5 million

Meevee, a company that lets you search for, track and save videos from around the web, has raised another $3.5 million, according to a PEhub filing.

The Series D round was comprised of returning investors, including Bay Area Equity Fund, Defta Partners, FCPR Israel Discovery Fund, Labrador Ventures, Rothschild Ventures and Walden VC.
