Coghead shutters, sells assets to SAP

Coghead, a startup that let users create web applications without advanced coding knowledge, has finally sold its intellectual property to shareholder SAP AG after a month of hunting for a buyer. The deal officially closed last week, but no financial terms have been disclosed. According to software giant SAP, Coghead’s technology will be used internally and not marketed as a product of its own.

Return Path seals $6M for email management

Return Path, a company that manages marketing emails, announced that it brought in $6 million in a fifth round of financing, reports peHUB. Its investors include Union Square Ventures, Mobius Venture Capital, Sutter Hill Ventures and Western Technology Investments.

Set-top box co. Sezmi cuts staff despite new $33M

Personalized television service Sezmi announced that it has laid off about 20 of its employees even though it just brought in a $33 million tranche of an anticipated $51.5 million third round of funding. The Belmont, Calif. company cited the poor economy as its rationale. It is just one of many tech companies cutting staff to conserve cash in preparation for tighter times ahead.
