Minecraft developer says “No sane person can be for SOPA”

Markus Persson, creator of the breakout hit indie game Minecraft, has announced that minecraft.net and mojang.com will be taken down on Jan 18th, in protest of the Stop Online Piracy Act. Speaking on Twitter, Persson said “Decided. We’ll silently take down minecraft.net and mojang.com on the 18th in protest of SOPA.”

League of Legends developer takes anti-SOPA stance, urges players to write to Congress

Riot Games, developer of popular free-to-play online game League of Legends, has announced its opposition to the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA). Chief Executive Office Brandon Beck announced in a forum statement “While we do support efforts to prevent online piracy, the current form of this legislation comes at far too high a cost for us, our players, and online communities across the internet.”

Blizzard cut content and corners to make Starcraft II good for professional gaming

Blizzard Entertainment, the creator of real-time strategy games like Warcraft and Starcraft, sacrificed a lot of potential improvements to Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty — including content and graphics — in order to make it viable as a “sport” for online gamers in the U.S. and globally, said Dustin Browder, Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty’s lead designer. Browder made the comments at the Blizzcon 2010 convention in Anaheim, Calif. today.
