Facebook’s first acquisition: secretive start-up Parakey

Facebook has acquired Parakey, a Mountain View, Calif., startup that had been working on a new way for people to work seamlessly on applications while online and offline.
Founded by former Mozilla Firefox browser developers Blake Ross and Joe Hewitt, Parakey had worked in secrecy for two years on a project it hoped would make online life much less complex for regular people. They called their PC download “a personal operating system.”

AOL acquires financial news search technology company, Relegence
AOL announced Wednesday that it has snapped up search technology company Relegence, which specializes in finding financial news and information, CNET reports.
Relegence, a subscription-based service, aims to deliver relevant information to users’ desktops as soon as it’s published, regardless of the medium used. Weblogs sells Blogsmith blog platform to AOL for $4-5M
The founders of the Weblogs Inc. Network sold their Blogsmith blogging platform to AOL (who bought WIN in 2005) last week, according to Valleywag. Sounds like AOL paid $4-5 million. The deal wasn’t public until now. Details at Valleywag.
