Report: Twitter investor Chris Sacca readying venture fund

Well-known angel investor Chris Sacca is about to launch an early-stage venture fund called Lowercase Capital, according to a report in TechCrunch.

The fund would be pretty small, the report says — $5 million in all, with investments of about $50,000 to $150,000 each. Chris Sacca, the head of special initiatives at Google who led Google’s efforts to open up the wireless spectrum to more competition, is leaving Google to invest in early-stage technology companies.

Drug delivery co., Macroflux, raises $75M

Macroflux Corp., a Mountain View developer of drug delivery technology using patches, has raised $75 million in first-round funding, as it spins out from Johnson & Johnson subsidiary ALZA Corp.

Nomura Phase4 Ventures led the deal, and was joined by New Enterprise Associates and HBM Partners. ALZA has a minority position of less than 20 percent in the spin-off, according to VentureWire (sub required), which first reported the news this morning.
