In a regulatory document filed with the SEC today, Adobe announced that chief technology officer Kevin Lynch would be taking his leave as of this coming Friday.

“On March 18, 2013, Kevin Lynch resigned from his position as executive vice president, chief technology officer, of Adobe Systems Incorporated, effective March 22, 2013, to pursue other opportunities,” the filing reads.

Lynch, who came to the company in 2005 during its acquisition of Macromedia, led Adobe’s charge into some of the more cutting-edge areas of technology, including multiscreen computing, cloud computing, and social media.

For ages, Adobe had been rooted in the workflows of the print design community; Lynch was responsible for the company’s shift into web publishing, starting with Dreamweaver. He also oversaw Adobe’s research and experience design teams and was, as Adobe puts it, in charge of “shaping Adobe’s long-term technology vision and focusing innovation across the company during a transformative time.”

Rumors around the web have pinpointed Apple as Lynch’s next destination, and it’s not an entirely nonsensical rumor. Adobe’s transition to web technologies has been nothing if not profitable. Apple, still a giant in consumer hardware, could use a helping hand when it comes to multiscreen fluidity, social media, and web-based software.

Venture capital firm General Catalyst is fast becoming a force to be reckoned with in the enterprise space.

A few months after poaching Adam Valkin from Accel Partners, General Catalyst has brought in VMware CTO Steve Herrod as an investment partner. He will join the Palo Alto office (the firm is headquartered in Boston) to invest in early-stage enterprise companies. Herrod will maintain a presence at virtualization giant VMware as a strategic adviser and will continue in his role as an adviser to EMC.

Prior to joining VMware over a decade ago, Herrod served as senior director of software engineering for Transmeta Corporation, where he introduced an early form of virtualization technology known as “Code Morphing.”

“Steve is a pioneer in virtualization and cloud technologies and we are incredibly pleased to have him join the General Catalyst partnership,” said Hemant Taneja, a partner General Catalyst in a statement. Taneja said Herrod would lead the investment focus in “next generation infrastructure technologies.”

Macroflux, a Mountain View, Calif., spinoff from Alza, hired M. Cory Zwerling as CEO. The company is developing “needle-free” delivery of complex drugs, similar in certain ways to StrataGent Life Sciences, which we wrote about here. Here is the company’s release.

ForHealth Technologies, a Daytona Beach, Fla., company, named Steve Thomas as its new CEO, VentureWire reports (subscription required). The company makes an automated filler for intravenous drug syringes. It’s apparently not clear that Thomas will move from his San Diego home, at least according to this article.

This last one is a bit old, but still worth noting. Scott Gottlieb, the former FDA official turned American Enterprise Institute pundit, whose various opinings on the biotech industry we have noted here and here, is apparently also a paid consultant to Novartis — an association that for some reason never seems to get noted when he writes long attacks on the New England Journal of Medicine for the WSJ’s editorial page. Perhaps readers can benefit from this information the next time Gottlieb unburdens himself of his accumulated wisdom. (Hat tip: Pharmalot.)
