Shawn Fannings Snocap today announced it has reached an agreement with EMI Music to distribute its music in a strictly licensed, above-board way on peer-to-peer networks. EMI is the third of four major labels to register its songs with Snocap, a San Francisco-based company that is creating a giant music database so it can identify the songs that are swapped online (and ultimately, distribute payment). The other labels to do deals are Universal Music Group and Sony BMG. Snowcap chief operating officer Ali Aydar said he expects the first Snocap-powered service to launch this summer.
