The rumors about Yahoo buying Texas digital home company Meedio have proved true. Meedio made the announcement on its site yesterday. This is no doubt part of Yahoo’s broader effort to fuse Internet content – photos, video, search, etc. – with the television, and to get into the personal video recorder space.
Meedio has a suite of products, including Meedio TV, which “lets you watch, pause, rewind, and record live analog, digital, and HDTV broadcasts using your existing PC. Use the integrated Electronic Program Guide to find your favorite shows, and Meedio’s powerful media library to archive and organize your recordings.”
Apparently, Yahoo just bought the Meedio team and technology, not the products themselves. It would appear that those will be phased out, as the company is no longer going to support them.
Hmmm. This would seem to eliminate the need for a Yahoo-TiVo deal, no?
