Coveo Plays an Integral Role in Offering Users the Best of Both Worlds — Unstructured, Keyword Queries, with Easy-to-Navigate, Structured Results

When designing the latest version of YellowPages.ca, Yellow Pages Group planned to offer a new capability — unstructured search using keywords or phrases. However, as the 6th most visited network of websites in Canada, the volume of advertiser content onYellowPages.ca would make it difficult for users to quickly find local services using a traditional unstructured result set. Yellow Pages Group entered into a partnership with Coveo with the goal to offer users the flexibility of unstructured search with an easy-to-navigate, categorized result set. Now, at the new YellowPages.ca, users can search by keyword or phrase, and quickly navigate through a result set refined into pre-determined categories such as: Products/Services, Cuisine, Brands Offered, Payment Methods, and Hours of Operation, allowing them to easily locate and compare advertiser services.

To deliver this unique structured result set, CES crawls hundred of thousands of advertiser websites and PDF files which results in millions of indexed documents. From there, advanced rules and algorithms leverage the powerful CES query language to analyze the indexed information and automatically extract the categories. Using an administration tool, Yellow Pages Group can modify or create new business rules and execute them in CES to extract the categories for the ads. In addition, the structured categories created by CES offer Yellow Pages Group the opportunity to monetize keyword and category advertising.
