Sonopia, a Menlo Park company that wants to let companies deliver mobile content to subscribers based on their individual needs, has raised $9 million, and wants to raise more.

VentureWire has the story (sub required) about Sonopia this morning, but doesn’t make much headway in explaining exactly what the company does. Sonopia’s site, we note, still says it plans to launch in the winter of 2005/6, though that date has since come and gone.

According to VentureWire:

Sonopia Corp. hasn’t yet divulged the exact nature of its mobile content technology or announced any customers. But the company has nonetheless begun discussing a possible second round of funding to add to its initial $8.75 million, Chief Executive Juha Christensen said.

Sonopia, which Christensen said raised $4 million in Series A funding each from Sevin Rosen Funds and ComVentures earlier this year, in addition to $750,000 from individuals, is developing a platform to tailor mobile content for individual brands and organizations.
