BioSystem Solutions has raised $3 million toward an expected $5 million first round of funding to help bring its composting devices to market, according to VentureWire (sub required).

Investors in the Santa Clara were not named, but the company said it has about 55 customers, and is using two compost methods:

The first is the use of thermophilic techniques use nitrogen and carbon to create a warmer atmosphere that is conducive to biodegrading bacteria. The other is vermicomposting, which uses worms to eat the compost and collects the by-products.
