Redpoint Ventures, the Silicon Valley (Menlo Park) venture firm, is raising a late-stage venture fund, reports VentureWire today.

The process has been underway for several weeks, as VentureBeat first heard reports of this last month.

The firm is aiming to raise between $250 million and $300 million for the fund, which would be the firms’s fourth. Last year, the firm finished raising $400 million for its third early-stage focused fund.

This comes at a time when there’s increasing activity at the later stages, with DFJ and Sequoia Capital also raising separate funds to invest in more mature companies.

Redpoint has yet to prove itself as a successful early stage investor.
