The consumer mobile web market is hot. But enterprises have been slow to move their applications to the mobile platforms. SkyData Systems hopes to change that and is in the midst of raising a $4 million first round, VentureBeat has learned.

Kevin Nix, CEO of the San Mateo, Calif., company, confirmed it is raising money but declined to offer details. The company was started in February and has seven employees. Nix and co-founder Peter Lim have a wealth of experience in business software at places such as Siebel Systems.

They want to make enterprise data accessible to users of mobile phones and then allow those users to create mash-ups with the data. The company will launch a software-as-a-service beta in June and then move to a public beta in the fall.
