Verticals onDemand, a startup that provides customer relationship management software to biotech and pharmaceutical companies, has raised a $4 million round of funding from Emergence Capital Partners.

Emergence General Partner Gordon Ritter, whose past investments include leading CRM company, says the deal combines two important trends — a software-as-a-service business model
and a focus on vertical markets.

The Pleasanton, Calif. startup’s VBioPharma service is built on Salesforce’s platform, and has added 15 customers in the last 10 months. Verticals onDemand announced a previous round of funding in March 2007.
