I’m sorry, Nintendo.  I can’t give you the "It’s not you, it’s me" spiel, because to be honest I’m not sure whose fault this is.  Maybe I matured, or maybe you did.  We had a good run though didn’t we?
The NES
Your sleek body threw me for a loop.
It was great in the beginning.  Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, even Ninja Turtles.  But then things started to change.
I know I screwed up a few times.  I faltered.  I started seeing other people.  Things just weren’t the same anymore.  You weren’t the same anymore.  When my uncle brought over the Sony Playstation I just couldn’t help myself.  It was so new and so hot.  I was weak.
You can’t just blame this on me though.  You just wanted to do the same things.  I know you tried, but it wasn’t enough.  Every few years you would come out with a new Game Boy but hardly anything would change.  We had a few rocky years there, but then you brought back A Link to the Past and came out with a couple new Zelda titles.  That’s when I remembered why I loved you.
The PS2
Look, the PS2 even stands upright. Why can’t you do that?
A little while later I started hanging out with Sony again and was really enjoying our time together.  The Playstation 2 was so hard to resist.  I know it was wrong, but it just felt so right.  Sony was just different and you were, well, the same.
I was disappointed when you came out with the GameCube.  At first I was excited at the chance of something new and refreshing, but you let me down.  I’m sorry but it just wasn’t what I was looking for.  I stayed with you for a little while, but then I finally had to call if off when things with me and Microsoft’s XBOX got a little too serious.
The Nintendo Wii
You had me at "Hello".
In 2006, when I was still with Microsoft and its second console, the XBOX 360, you surprised me.  The Nintendo Wii seemed like a revolution.   I called you up and for one night we rekindled our love.  Sadly, it was not to last.  You fooled me into believing you had changed for the better, but instead you only became more promiscuous.  You prostituted yourself out to just about anybody;  no longer were you dedicated to pleasing just me.
Look how big that logo is.
I dabbled in PC gaming for a while after that, but it was Microsoft yet again who called me back.  XBOX Live was something I had never experienced before.  It opened me up to a whole new world, one I never knew existed, something you never did seem to grasp.
Sony revealed itself again not soon after, but the Playstation 3 just asked for too much in return.  Recently it has started to appear a lot more inviting however, and I fear my loyalty may be slipping once more.
My heart
You’ll always have a special place in my heart.
I don’t know if you and I will ever work out in the future, Nintendo.  Though I just want you to know that I will always treasure the times we had.
