AppBistro, a marketplace for Facebook tab applications that lets businesses, brands, and artists add flare to their Facebook fan pages, announced today that it has raised a $550,000 angel round.
AppBistro provides a marketplace for developers to showcase their apps, which Facebook page owners can integrate into their pages in the form of tabs. For example, a non-profit may want to have a way for supporters to donate money, a business may want its tweets pulled in from its Twitter account, or a band may need some way to showcase its music on the page.
The marketplace currently includes apps that offer quizzes, polls, and chat as well as blogs, group deals, and newsletters. The most popular of the lot are apps that enable page owners to integrate services like Twitter, YouTube, Flickr, and LinkedIn as tabs. While most are free, developers can also charge for their apps, something Facebook does not yet let developers on its own platform do.
The $550,000 convertible debt round was led by Sand Hill Angels, with participation from Dave McClure’s 500 Startups, i/o Ventures, Zelkova Ventures, Seraph Group, Erik Moore, and Thomas McInerney. AppBistro launched at the TechCrunch Disrupt event in May.
