Apple’s iCloud service now has more than 300 million users, Apple CEO Tim Cook said on stage today at its WWDC conference.
“It took Facebook five years to reach this many accounts,” Cook said.
iCloud handles backup services and content sharing between iOS and Mac devices. Apple says iCloud has handled 7.4 trillion push notifications to date and that iCloud is supporting 240 million users in Game Center.
Apple also introduced iWork for iCloud, a new version of iWork that lets you create documents from browsers on Macs or PCs. This web-based software will also work with Office documents, and it even lets you drag-and-drop to edit docs.
Importantly, the app appears to work well on Windows machines as well. Apple showed iWork for iCloud on Windows 8 with the Chrome browser on stage, and it looked fluid.
