Today Uber announced a product delivery pilot test in Stockholm in partnership with Swedish ecommerce platform Tictail.

Stockholm is the fourth city Uber is targeting with large-scale on-demand deliveries, following Washington D.C.New York, and Santa Monica. The partnership coincides with the launch of Tictail’s first iOS app.

But unlike past experiments, these on-demand deliveries are routed through Tictail’s app, making Tictail the first company to use Uber’s API to handle product deliveries. The experiment offers a first look at how Uber could become a platform for moving people, products, and virtually anything else from point A to point B — rather than just being a car service.

Starting tomorrow, Uber will deliver a select number of products listed in Tictail’s app to Stockholm residents. Deliverable products will be listed in a special category, “Free One Hour Delivery With Uber,” within the app, Uber said.

Tictail chief executive Carl Waldekranz told VentureBeat that this is just a test run in Stockholm, but said the company would consider launching a similar service in other cities if the pilot does well.
