People don’t want to cook, and while ordering takeout used to be the fix to that problem, now you can order chef-made food (such as from Munchery) or, better yet, order a chef to your house and temporarily live the life of the rich and famous.
La Belle Assiette, a French startup, lets folks do exactly that. The startup is announcing today that it has raised $1.7 million in seed funding to continue growing and make some key hires.
Much like its American counterparts Kitchensurfing and Kitchit, La Belle Assiette is a marketplace. You can search chefs by food type, popularity, and other criteria, and book one for a specific time. Your chef brings the ingredients, cooks, and cleans up before leaving. Meals range from $30 per person (ingredients included) to a lot more depending on who and what you order. The average booking is for six people at $55 per head.
It’s not exactly cheap, but it’s similar to restaurant pricing — only in this case the restaurant is your home.
La Belle Assiette got its start in Paris in 2013, founded by Giorgio Riccò and Stephen Leguillon. After making its way through the rest of France, it launched in Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland, and the U.K. in April.
The startup raised this new bite of funding from Nicolas Brusson (cofounder of BlaBlaCar), Thibaud Elzière, Nicolas Bourdin, the founders of l’Atelier des Chefs, Kima Ventures, Xavier Niel, Jeremie Berrebi, and previous investor Guillaume Cuvelier.
The startup previously raised $500,000 in funding.
