Microsoft is bringing an Xbox Live-style app to Windows 10.
During Microsoft’s Windows 10 event today in Redmond, Wash., Xbox boss Phil Spencer revealed the new app for Windows 10. It features a friends list, activity feed, and other elements that Microsoft created for Xbox Live on consoles, but now it works on Microsoft’s latest operating system. The Xbox app works on both PC and tablet, and it enables gamers to voice or text chat across platform and share their creations and videos to their friends no matter where they are gaming.
“We have the most active network of gamers with Xbox Live,” Spencer said. “We’ve identified several ways to make PC gaming better than ever.”
This crossover of Microsoft’s communities faces significant competition from already established spaces for folks who game and gab about them, like Valve’s Steam digital distribution platform, Raptr, and even livestreaming site Twitch — but none of them likely offer the Xbox component that this will.

The Xbox app brings with it some of the best features from Xbox One. That includes GameDVR, which is the video-recording functionality that enables players to save clips of their last 30 seconds (or more) of gameplay.
“We think this will create more viralness for game developers and the gamers,” said Spencer.
