Microsoft is working on an unlocked version of the Surface 3 tablet carrying LTE, members of the Surface team said in an Ask Me Anything (AMA) conversation on Reddit today.

“[W]e are doing an unlocked LTE version,” the team wrote, in response to a question from a Reddit user. “[C]an’t say where it will be available yet, but we hear you and in many markets we will have it available. [S]tay tuned for more!”

The user who framed the question, agaikwad2008, has “been looking for a Full [W]indows tablet with unlocked 3G/4G/LTE for about 4 years now and have not had any success.”

Upon hearing the news from the team, the person wrote that “hopefully I can buy one in the US somehow.”

The news comes days after Microsoft announced that Surface 3 with 4G LTE would become available through T-Mobile and Verizon in the U.S. sometime in 2015.

Microsoft PR declined to share anything about the Surface Team’s remarks.
