In a blog post today, one of the company’s software engineers explains how a little feature he built at a hackathon while he was still an intern has helped cut down on the time it takes to repin content on iOS and Android devices.
It’s a valuable contribution to Pinterest, given that 80 percent of the app’s traffic comes from mobile devices.
The feature, called the predictive board picker, has “reduced the average time spent on the repin flow by 10 percent,” engineer Yuchen Liu wrote in today’s blog post.
And analysis suggests that the feature is leading people to Pin content to the right boards.
“Our data confirms that the smart board picker reduces the number of Pinners who create boards by 2 percent, who edit Pins by 4 percent and who delete pins by 3 percent,” Liu wrote.
