Apple will not be announcing a new Apple TV set-top box or a new video service at its Worldwide Developers Conference next week in San Francisco, a new report said.

The device is not ready for prime time, the New York Times reported, citing two sources with knowledge of Apple’s plans.

Previous reports said Apple plans to release a new Apple TV box with a more powerful A8 chip and much more storage. It was rumored to come with a new remote control that featured a touchscreen. There was also supposed to be a new dedicated app store, and an SDK for developers to develop new apps for the platform.

Today’s article¬†also cited Apple’s difficulty acquiring the content for a video service that was to be launched with the new device.

As reported previously on VentureBeat, Apple has been unable to sign video content licensing deals with some of the major premium content rights holders.

Reports of the problems were reported weeks ago, but some analysts believed Apple would get the deals signed in time for WWDC.
