Formerly known as Webmaster Tools, Google Search Console is a free service for website administrators, designed to help them track their site’s indexing and presence in Google Search. Among the most-used facets of the service are Search Analytics reports, which serve up data around how a website’s content shows up in search results.
Now that Google is opening Search Analytics data via an API, the company is hoping developers will create their own apps and add-on services based on this search performance data. This could be to easily display the top 10 queries from a specific geographic location, for example, or to list the top queries based on number of clicks. It basically gives webmasters more ways to access and play with all the search data related to their websites.
