Sony’s premiere racing franchise is finally making the leap to its flagship system.
Gran Turismo: Sport is headed to PlayStation 4. It will get a beta early next year, but Sony did not reveal a release date. To set this entry in the series apart, Sony and developer Polyphony Digital are looking to focusing on competitions and — possibly — virtual reality.
“As you would expect with the jump to PlayStation 4, the graphics and driving will be better than ever,” Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi said. “But our ambition is much greater than that. We wanted to introduce a new way that people play driving games.”

To do that, Sport will focus on two different racing cups. In one, players will represent their home country. In the other, you will race for your favorite manufacturer.
But these are not simply simulated cups, players will actually be racing for real-world championships. Sony is partnering with the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) to award the winners of these cups a championship trophy alongside real-world racers. Yamauchi didn’t provide any details on how this will work, but we’ll get an idea when the beta launches in 2016.
As for virtual reality, Yamauchi said his team is testing the PlayStation VR and, according to him, it looks promising
