The gaming industry is about to go backward, and this isn’t a bad thing.

Xbox Live director of programming Larry “Major Nelse” Hryb today revealed the list of the first 104 Xbox 360 games to become backwards compatible on the Xbox One. You can check out the full list on his blog. These 104 games will become playable on Xbox One on November 12.

The list includes popular Xbox 360 games like Mirror’s Edge, South Park: The Stick of Truth, and Just Cause 2. It also includes a large amount of Xbox Live Arcade titles, like the special editions of The Secret of Monkey Island and Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s revenge, Castle Crashers, and Shadow Complex. However, plenty of big names, like Red Read Redemption and the BioShock series, aren’t on the list.

Some of those may come later.

“Our launch of 104 titles on November 12 is just the beginning,” Hyrb states on his post. “You can expect new Xbox One backward compatible games to be announced on a regular basis, starting in December. More titles are on the way, including fan favorites like Halo Reach, Halo Wars, Call of Duty: Black Ops, BioShock, BioShock 2, BioShock Infinite and Skate 3. Stay tuned because this is just the beginning of a long list of Xbox 360 games that will run on Xbox One.”

Backward compatibility gives the Xbox One a feature that the PlayStation 4 doesn’t have. Sony’s newest system can’t play PlayStation 3 games in the disc drive, though you can stream them on PlayStation Now, and it hasn’t announced a plan to add that functionality. This could give the Xbox One a boost in sales, since the Xbox 360 was a popular system. Plenty of gamers still have a large collection of games for that console.
