One of the PC’s coolest multiplayer deathmatch games is going to battle on the consoles.
Chivalry: Medieval Warfare is coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on December 1. This is a 24-player online melee-combat game where players must use swords, battle axes, and bows to make the other team bleed to death. It is violent, but I also found it fun, fast-paced, and a bit silly in my time with it on PC. The base game sells for $20, but you can also buy an Ultimate Edition for $30, which comes with extra characters and weapons.
This is one of those games that found a dedicated audience on Steam thanks to its success on YouTube and Twitch. It saw a release on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in late 2014 and earlier this year, respectively. But now the game has a chance to make even more money on the current consoles instead of the systems that are on the way out. Considering Sony has sold 25 million PlayStation 4s and the Xbox One is at approximately 15 million sold, developer Torn Banner Studios could find a whole new audience looking for some multiplayer fun that doesn’t involve modern or futuristic rifles.
On both PS4 and Xbox One, Chivalry will feature dedicated servers, which should ensure quality first-person ax swinging. But let’s also hope that it means Torn Banners will include some variations on the standard game.
For example, I was a big fan of the low-gravity servers of Chivalry where the in-game characters could jump 50 feet into the air … of course, they were still programmed to fear heights, so they screamed even as they slowly came back down to the ground. Yes — it is hilarious:
