Larian Studios has sold more than 1 million copies of Divinity: Original Sin 2 on Steam. This is an impressive landmark for almost any game, but Larian is hitting that threshold while also breathing life into the classic hardcore role-playing genre.
Divinity: Original Sin 2 debuted in September, and it is available on Steam for $45. It tells a fantasy story where players can make crucial choices that affect the world. Original Sin 2 also features a thoughtful and dynamic turn-based combat system. You can use your flame magic on an enemy, but it will also probably light everything on fire around them as well. The combination of the intricate story and combat systems along with the writing and characters has won over a legion of players, and that positive word of mouth and glowing reviews has fueled Divinity: Original Sin 2’s success.

While Divinity is doing a lot new, its popularity is also due to continuing the lineage of classic Infinity Engine RPGs like Baldur’s Gate and Neverwinter Nights. Those classics have a legion of fans, and many people consider them some of the best games ever made. Now, Divinity: Original Sin 2 isn’t just bringing back that type of isometric, dialogue-heavy gameplay. The developer is improving on it and introducing it to an entirely new group of players.
